frequently asked questions about the Midge & mosquito killing system
The system creates a source of heat and CO2 in the proportions that the female blood sucking mosquito is genetically programmed to find. The MKS mimics the mosquito’s prey by producing different body signatures, such as, temperature and breathing of poultry, fowl, livestock, pets and humans. The MKS cycles every six to nine minutes producing the different body signatures.
Those insects that are attracted to heat and CO2, which is primarily the female mosquito, No-See-Ums, gnats and biting flies.
No, unlike those systems that use propane or chemicals, the MKS and its CO2 emission is like having an additional human in the yard.
Yes. Mosquitoes look for the easiest source of heat and CO2, so the closer to the source of the mosquitoes, the better it works.
Yes. Studies have shown that 90% of the biting mosquitoes live within 100 yards of where they hatch.
No. CO2 and electricity are the only expense to run the unit. Costs for each of these vary by market and are similar to most household appliances.
You can’t give specific numbers. The heavier the mosquito population, naturally, the more it will kill. For example, in some areas the MKS will kill 200 mosquitoes per night, in other areas the MKS will kill 15,000 mosquitoes in one night.
No. It will never kill all mosquitoes. The MKS reduces the mosquito population. For example, one mosquito can reproduce up to 7,000 offspring. So for every mosquito the MKS kills it reduces the population by 7,000 mosquitoes.
The MKS will cover an area of one-acre depending on breeding sites, shrubbery, fences, buildings, environmental changes, winds and temperatures. It could take several units to reduce the mosquito population in some areas.
A bug zapper works by using light as its attractant for all types of insects including beneficial insects but very few mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are not attracted to light therefore the MKS does not use light as an attractant.
The MKS kills most species and has been tested worldwide.
Tests have been conducted by Dr. Larry Olsen, University of Arkansas in Jonesboro; Chris Tipping, entomologist at the University of Florida in Gainesville; and the unit is currently being tested in Australia and the U.K.
The mosquito carcasses fall out of the unit to the ground and are disposed of by nature. (i.e. ground insects, wind or reintroduction back into the soil)
Yes. A plastic cap can be placed over the photo-sensor cell, which enables the machine to run continuously. If bypassing the photo-sensor cell the unit would need to be placed on a timer to reset the every 5 hours by turning the machine off for 2 minutes and then turning the unit back on.
No. The MKS unit is maintenance free.
The power supply cord is 6 ft long. Yes. The power supply cord is grounded.
No. The MKS is very effective and completely safe around pets, children and livestock.
